Welcome to 2024: My New Year's Intentions

New Year 2024 resolutions
Well, here we are, on the brink of a new year already! As we prepare to dive in, I always like to spend some time reflecting and considering my goals for the year ahead. This year, I'm feeling particularly motivated after my husband gifted me an awesome book for Christmas - Tranquility By Tuesday, by Laura Vanderkam.

I started it over the Christmas break (actually on the airplane on the way down to visit my folks), and my brain is buzzing with ideas and excitement! It has me feeling eager to explore the possibilities of managing my time more efficiently, while also getting more enjoyment out of my busy life. It's not exactly a "time management" book, but more along the lines of helping you figure out how to get more out of life even if you feel overwhelmed and too busy to do the things you enjoy.

I'm only halfway through, and I've already found three of the "rules" to be extremely helpful and inspiring. I'm sure I'll come up with more ideas as I move through the book, but for now, I've listed 3 resolutions or "intentions" for 2024 below. I share them here to offer inspiration, as well as to look back on and keep myself on track throughout the year ahead!

Managing Stress Using Holistic Health Approaches

Managing holiday stress
The holiday season is upon us, and as much as I love this time of year, there's no doubt that it can also be stressful. Between juggling holiday parties, shopping, wrapping gifts, planning meals, visiting with family, and travel - along with the usual day-to-day activities - it's no wonder that this time of year sees a higher than usual number of heart attacks, not to mention mental health challenges such as anxiety, panic attacks, and just good old-fashioned stress.

There are many options for dealing with stress in a healthy way, and taking a holistic approach can be of great value. In this episode of our Holistic Health series, we'll explore how holistic health practices can be powerful tools for managing stress and enhancing mental health - both during the holidays and throughout the year.

[Video] Returning to Ancient Remedies to Promote Health

Ancient remedies for health Dr. Axe
There's no doubt that modern medicine has come a long way from it's early days of bloodletting and leeches as treatments for human diseases.

However, our ancestors had a much deeper knowledge than we give them credit for of how to use food and plants for healing.

While we should appreciate the technological advances that have given us things like open-heart surgery and emergency medical treatment, this doesn't mean that we should "throw the baby out with the bathwater" and discount valid ancient remedies which may still be helpful today.

In fact, as I've discussed here many times before, today's medical system relies far too heavily on prescribing drugs to manage symptoms, rather than preventing them in the first place by addressing the root cause of the problem.

By considering the wisdom of the past, we can find balance and better health through approaches such as dietary adjustments, stress reduction, herbal remedies, and more. These age-old tools alone can often provide substantial improvements and, in many cases, even a reversal of disease.

In this interview, Dr. Mark Hyman and Dr. Josh Axe discuss how ancient remedies and traditional nutritional wisdom can help to heal modern diseases and create vibrant health.

Check it out below!

Welcome to December! It's hard to believe that 2024 is just around the corner...

2023 has been an amazing year as I discussed last week, and we're ready to finish strong! :-)  To kick off the final month of the year, I've got your December freebie ready for you below. It's on a topic that has become very trendy over the past few years, although the technique has been used by humans for centuries for various purposes - both physical and spiritual.

I'm talking, of course, about fasting. While fasting has been used for religious reasons by monks, mystics, and more, in recent years, we have begun to understand that there is a health component to fasting as well. In fact, some laboratory studies have shown greatly increased longevity from restricting eating for certain periods of time. And while it may sound unpleasant, fasting can be easier than you think, and can actually boost your energy and mood and make you feel great!

You're probably not thinking a lot about fasting during this season of eating - after all, the holidays are the time to indulge a little - but this will be a great resource to help you start off the New Year with a cleansing fast, so go ahead and download your copy now, as it's only available for a limited time.

She is a Certified Life Coach, and currently lives in Ohio with her husband, 2 barn cats, and a small flock of chickens on their 5-acre homestead.
