However, our ancestors had a much deeper knowledge than we give them credit for of how to use food and plants for healing.
While we should appreciate the technological advances that have given us things like open-heart surgery and emergency medical treatment, this doesn't mean that we should "throw the baby out with the bathwater" and discount valid ancient remedies which may still be helpful today.
In fact, as I've discussed here many times before, today's medical system relies far too heavily on prescribing drugs to manage symptoms, rather than preventing them in the first place by addressing the root cause of the problem.
By considering the wisdom of the past, we can find balance and better health through approaches such as dietary adjustments, stress reduction, herbal remedies, and more. These age-old tools alone can often provide substantial improvements and, in many cases, even a reversal of disease.
In this interview, Dr. Mark Hyman and Dr. Josh Axe discuss how ancient remedies and traditional nutritional wisdom can help to heal modern diseases and create vibrant health.
Check it out below!
In this discussion, Dr. Hyman and Dr. Axe discuss the difference between Chinese and Western medicine approaches, plus the power of plant foods for healing chronic disease, the role of energetic balance, common nutrient deficiencies caused by certain medications, and alternative or complementary therapies.
They also discuss the importance and impact of soil-based organisms for our health, a simple and fun way to tell which foods are good for certain areas of health, and lots more! (See the full topic list below the video.)

There is a lot to be gained by appreciating and valuing the knowledge of our ancestral humans. Learning about ancient foodways and how food and nutrition can support our health is essential if we want to overcome the epidemic of modern diseases that plagues our world.
While I'm sure there are many technological advances to come in the future that will greatly improve our medical system, the past also has valuable lessons which can play a part in human health, and it's important that we don't forget this truth.
